Lake Travis, located on the northwest edge of Austin, is fed by the Colorado River and other local creeks. The lake is a beautiful place to visit as a vacation spot or live full time. The lake offers a wide variety of activities as in boating, skiing, wake boarding, swimming, camping and much more. The lake's bottom is limestone which makes the water a beautiful blue color. Lake Travis offers several parks operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority and the Travis County Parks Deparment. Several of these parks include picnic areas, campgrounds, beaches, boat ramps and/or shoreline fishing.
Impounded in 1942, Lake Travis is a 18,930 acre reservoir of the the Lower Colorado River Authority. Largemouth bass, catfish and white bass are common fish species. Some parks charge a fee for entering and launching. The level of Lake Travis determines the usability of it's boat ramps.
Lakeway, Texas, Spicewood, Texas, Bee Caves and Briarcliff are located on the south side of Lake Travis. Lago Vista, Texas, and Jonestown are on the north side of the lake.
