Clear Lake Area Communities

The Clear Lake area includes both Harris and Galveston counties, and parts of the cities of Houston and Pasadena. There are nine distinct communities which distinguish the area, which covers the same geographical area as the top-rated Clear Creek Independent School District.:

Clear Lake City - Annexed by Houston over 20 years ago, this community has its own unique personality. With an estimated population of 63,500, it is home to NASA/Johnson Space Center, and is a master-planned residential area. Residents are still able to maintain a strong sense of local community, and take pride in being Clear Lake City, a major part of the Clear Lake Area. The Clear Lake City Community Association services the Clear Lake City area.

Clear Lake Shores  - An island community of about 1,400 citizens, located on the southeastern side of Clear Lake at the entrance to Jarboe Bayou, Clear Lake Shores offers peaceful small town attitudes amid big city conveniences. It is home to four major marinas, one of which, with 1,300 boat slips, is the largest privately owned marina in the country. Eco-tourists look forward to the completion of the city's Jarboe Bayou Project which will create a major water bird sanctuary and habitat for water-related animals, with small piers for fishing and pathways for strolling and bird watching.

El lago Lago - Previously the home of Jean Lafitte's pirates, El Lago is located on the west bank of Taylor Lake to the northern shore of Clear Lake. This residential community of about 3,400 citizens experienced a major growth spurt when NASA arrived in 1961 and is proud to be the home of several astronauts.

Kemah  - This seaside community is home to about 1,525 residents and unique area shops, galleries and restaurants in a "Waterfront District". Shrimpers sail into Galveston Bay past the Kemah Boardwalk, a dynamic collection of themed restaurants, retail shops, water gardens and amusements for the whole family. Stroll the boardwalk, ride the carousel, soar on the ferris wheel or board the train for a ride through the complex.

League City  - Located on the south shore of Clear Lake, League City is the largest and fastest growing city in the area with a population of about 55,000. It is dedicated to new development and growth with an eye on preserving the past. Stroll and shop under huge oak trees for gifts, antiques, books and collectibles in "Historic League City". The 1898 restored West Bay Common School, restored historic homes, quaint tearooms, a delightful park and "Helen's Garden" beckon you.

Nassau Bay  - Directly across from the Johnson Space Center, Nassau Bay is home to 4,500 residents, several hotels and motels, and state-of-the-art Christus-St. John Hospital. They also enjoy several popular retail and entertainment establishments. Visit "Back Bay Market", an open air market, the second Saturday and Sunday monthly. Learn more about the uniquely decorated pelican monuments scattered throughout the city at http://www.pelicanpathproject.com/ .

Taylor Lake Village  - With about 4,200 residents, Taylor Lake Village is a quiet bedroom community with great proximity to water activities. Located across Taylor Lake from sister city El Lago, the two communities share a police department as well as the desire to maintain their image as primarily a residential community for the Bay Area.

Webster  - Located at the gateway to the NASA/Bay Area, this community of about 8,225 residents is known for its variety of quaint retail businesses, family recreation opportunities and dozens of popular restaurants. Stay in one of their affordable hotels and browse through the "Webster Gateway" shopping district for fine art, gourmet foods, crafts, fine jewelry and books.
